The Lovin' Spoonful

Named after a line in a John S. Hurt song, the Spoonful were a product of the Greenwich Village folk-blues scene of the early 1960s, with roots in a family tree that included the Halifax Three and the Mugwumps, a lineage that produced half of the Spoonful, and also half (Denny Doherty and Cass Elliott) of The Mamas and the Papas.

They were very successful for a brief period in 1965-6 - they had seven Top Ten singles in the US, and that was pretty much that.
